Read Last Weeks's Game review. The 2009 Trojans Football Schedule will be exciting. For the first time in many years, the USC Trojans have the luxury of playing their last three PAC-10 games at home in the L.A. Coliseum. They lost the first one against Stanford.
Also, the USC-UCLA rivalry will not be the last game of USC’s PAC-10 season. USC will play Arizona Dec 5th. We have the special honor of having the BCS Citi National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Thursday January 07, 2010.
November 14, 2009 USC Trojans gets crushed by Stanford Cardinals 55-21
Dazed and Confused are probably the best words that can describe the USC Trojans 2009 season.
We started the season full of energy with high hopes and a new freshman quarterback. USC Football Fans are nearing the end with little to cheer about, drained by a rollercoaster of emotional ups and downs pathetically shaking our heads at the stupid penalties and out-of-the-ox play calling.
USC will not visit a BCS bowl game this year after starting the season as many would describe as ‘scary good’. Their performance on the field is scary at best – or maybe even awful – maybe awfully overrated is a better description. Two weeks after giving up the second most yards in school history, the Trojans did an encore with the most points allowed. As one fan in the crowd remarked “at least they are breaking records”.
The USC defense at Saturday’s Homecoming game played the entire game on their heels chasing after Stanford RB Toby Gerhart. Pete Carroll was having flashbacks of his recruiting visits with Gerhart, the California State Leading High School rusher. It was a perfect sunny day for a perfect performance by the local SoCal Norco home-boy.
On just 29 carries, Gerhart gained 178 yards and scored three touchdowns leading the way for Stanford to hang 55 on the overrated USC defense. The USC defense allowed the most points ever in Trojan history and gave up their worst loss since 1966 when Notre Dame pounded them 51-0. Stanford delivered Pete Carroll his first November loss since taking the head coaching position at USC.
Cardinal QB Andrew Luck had a huge day. He only had to throw the ball 22 times with Gerhart punching holes in the sorry USC defense. But he was efficient with 12 completions for 144 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for another touchdown.
When Stanford beat USC two years ago by a measly point, it was a huge shocker to all of the sports nation because Stanford was a 41-point underdog. However, a win with a 34-point differential was not a surprise at all. Simply, USC looked horrible.
Gerhart made the USC defense – the same defense that crushed an opponent two weeks ago – look freakishly bad on USC’s homecoming day. Over 90,000 fans were witness to this flogging. A thumping in which USC gave up 469 yards.
USC QB Matt Barkley went 21 of 31 for 196 yards with three interceptions. It was a growing up experience for Barkley. On a positive side, this experience will make him a much better player in the years ahead.
We can sit around and with doom and gloom wondering what the heck happened. Or, we can be realistic and be thankful for the wonderful past golden years. Everything has an ending. Maybe one day Pete will end this Twittering too. Or, were the Twittering distractions a cause for downfall? Nevertheless, after nine seasons at the helm of the USC Trojans, Pete has produced a 48-4 record for the USC Trojan Football Fans. Thank you, Pete.
Two more home games remain UCLA and Arizona. Fight On! Let’s cheer on the team!
